Knots (1996-2002)

In this series I use a dominating image of an ordinary knotted rope to allow for its strong, tactile and physical nature to inform the work. Its commonness coupled with its endless, metaphoric implications create an expectation of meaning. In this series I explore some less commonplace or personal associations of knots (such as to biological systems and to musical runs) in order to contradict that expectation.  In certain of the installations, individual prints, as broken segments of knotted rope, undermine the implied continuity.
